<image:title>About Evi O</image:title>
<image:caption>EVI O Evi O. is an artist, designer and author. She was born in Surabaya, Indonesia before moving to Australia in 2003. Her visual understanding rooted from Visual Communication teachings and a decade with Penguin Books as a designer. Her art practice started in 2015, initiated by a genuine drive to explore and express curiosity and ultimately understand and contribute to the bigger surroundings. These days, her award-winning, multi-disclipinary design studio - Evi O. Studio - and her art practice are conduits to her creative odyssey. She practices from Marrickville, Sydney servicing the world. What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? To erase any stereotypes that comes with what being a woman in a society should mean would be a good start. You know what, I think we should erase any societal stereotypes that are gender-related, then it would truly be a better place for everyone, women included. @evi_o @evi_o.studio Photographs: Nicolas Watt, Daniel Shipp and Andrew Grune.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Tai Snaith</image:title>
<image:caption>TAI SNAITH Tai Snaith is an artist, author and broadcaster living on unceded Wurundjeri land on the banks of the Merri Creek. Her artwork celebrates the intersection of stories, objects, people and place. How objects like books and vessels can illustrate and preserve the stories of the times we live in as well as the past. Tai’s recent major commissioned wall work, involving photographed assemblages of her ceramic objects, found objects and open books for the State Library of Victoria was shortlisted in the World Illustration Awards in 2019. Similarly, this way of working has led Tai to collaborate with the Royal Botanic Gardens and their Herbarium collection on a major work launched publicly this year. This current exhibition (Impossible Bouquet) for Heide Museum of Modern Art continues her exploration of how objects can tell a story of place and the people that inhabited it. Made during lockdown, these vessels tell both a story of our current unprecedented times and connect them to the dark domestic history of the Heide cottage. Tai also has a podcast where she speaks with other female identifying artists called ‘A World Of One’s Own.’ Originally commissioned by ACCA, there are now 3 seasons to date. @taisnaith Photographs: Clytie Meredith, Bri Hammond & Matthew Stanton</image:caption>

Equality…and no I don’t want to be a man. I would create a more female centric world, and create more space/time/allowance/understanding/etc. for women to be (who they want to be without societal expectations). <image:title>About Jess Lilley</image:title>
<image:caption>JESS LILLEY Jess Lilley is a creative director, writer, broadcaster and co-founder of creative company, The Open Arms. Jess has always gravitated towards work that uplifts communities and breaks down hostile systems that prevent people working together. She believes in the power of the collective over the promotion of the individual. What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? I've been staring at this question for so long! I think the most important change is systemic. Social, political, institutional and economic structures all work together to keep women disadvantaged, unsafe, poor, unsupported, discriminated against and silenced (particularly women of colour, disabled women and older women.) You can't just put one woman in any of those systems and hope for change. The systems need to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up, centring the most disadvantaged voices and life experiences and working out from there.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Courtney Holm</image:title>
<image:caption>COURTNEY HOLM Courtney is the founder of A.BCH, a Melbourne based circular fashion label re-engineering the entire lifecycle of a garment. A.BCH designs garments for biological circular systems whilst flipping the status quo across traditional fashion functions including collections, seasons, pricing, gender, marketing, material innovation and producer responsibility. From the sourcing of fibres, to novel design methodology, extending into post-purchase care and localised fibre to fibre recycling, Courtney is passionate about seeing change in the industry for good. A systems-thinker, Courtney believes the design phase is where solutions to environmental and social problems can be planned and made. She also runs Circular Sourcing, a platform where A.BCH sells and shares excess raw materials with startups, small businesses and home-sewers normally unable to access high MOQs of innovative materials. In addition to this, she is an educator passionate about the future generation, lecturing on Sustainable Innovation in Fashion + Textiles at RMIT and guest speaking across the country. @abch.world @abch.redline What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? Just because things have been done a certain way for a long time does not mean they are right, kind or just. I think we must individually and collectively challenge ourselves and be open to learning, changing and growing in order to see a more equal and fair world for women.</image:caption>

<image:title>About Amy Mills</image:title>
<image:caption>AMY MILLS Amy Claire Mills is Warrang/Sydney-based artist living and working on unceded Gadigal and Wangal land. Her practice explores identity and self-preservation through immersive textile installations and performance, by which she becomes both the artist and subject. Her practice critiques and examines the politics surrounding the female disabled body. Using distinctive, colourful and bold mediums, her work encourages audiences to challenge their own paradigms and internalised preconceived bias, with the ambition of deconstructing ableism. What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? End the patriarchy through community and intersectional feminism. @amy_claire_mills Photography: Zan Wimberley</image:caption>

<image:title>About Lily Gloria</image:title>
<image:caption>LILY GLORIA Lily Gloria grew up in Melbourne crawling on the floors of her families fine dining restaurants. Her grandmother Gloria, the matriarch of the family, was a powerhouse with no filter, high standards and a way of seeing the world that was all her own. This rubbed off onto little Lily. Lily began searching for her place as an artist in this world starting at Monash University where she completed her Bachelor of Communication Design. Studying at their campus in Prato, Italy for a term deepened her love for travel. New York was the dream though and in 2012, she made the leap. Knowing no one and having no real plan she decided to try it all. Interning in the city for graffiti website 12ozProphet and website Karmaloop, designing for Brooklyn Industries and exhibiting photographs alongside the likes of Martha Cooper, she was finding her groove. Lily was at a friends Dumbo art studio drawing with her mates and mustered the courage to tell them she wanted to try stick and poke tattooing. On the spot they all lovingly pushed her into trying it then and there. With a push pin, pen ink and tequila to sterilise, her tattooing journey began. Simple, graphic and clean are the elements that shine through in Lily’s tattoos. With the majority of her clients being women she strives to empower them by helping take back ownership of their bodies in a world where everyone thinks they’re allowed to have an opinion on how we present ourselves. We tear ourselves apart, the media, our boyfriends, our parents, internet trolls, we’re crucified over and over about the way we look. Tattoos can help piece us back together. This is now Lily’s mission through her practice. What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? Free tampons. @lily_gloria_tattoo</image:caption>

<image:caption>MIRELLA ARAPIAN Mirella Arapian (she/her) is an Armenian-Australian designer. She is the founder and creative director at Mek, a purpose driven design studio building future-ready brands with social and environmental impact. Working across branding, design, and strategy, Mek disrupts the norm and challenges convention to help brands tell their story to raise awareness, attention, and action. Mirella is the founder and director of Womentor, a global mentorship program for women in graphic design that exists to improve gender equality in the design industry. She is also an animal rights activist and volunteers for various organisations across social justice, animal welfare, and human rights. Mirella has worked across Australia and North America with leading brands and organisations including Sea Shepherd, PETA, WWF, Museums Victoria, Environmental Film Festival Australia, RMIT University, and Veganuary. She has spoken at design festivals, industry events, and educational institutions around Australia; her work has won awards, been published in international books and magazines, and exhibited in the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest, Romania. As a woman in design leadership and child of immigrants, Mirella is an advocate for equality, diversity, and inclusion in design, using her business and creativity as a platform for activism and positive change. What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? Dismantle the existing system and rebuild it for the modern world with the foundation of promoting cultural and social norms that enforce the view that all genders are equal, and use those norms to inform education, policies, and laws that end discrimination while ensuring fair and inclusive treatment across education, the workplace, and the home. @mek.studio</image:caption>

<image:title>About Jo Hook</image:title>
<image:caption>JO HOOK Jo Hook is a Life Designer. And with an insatiable appetite for reading everything from Neuroscience; Feminism; Leadership, Architecture, Design to Physics, Jo is also a lifelong learner. Her training in Neuro Linguistic Programming – sometimes described as a model for the Architecture of subjective thinking- added to her interest in how people shape their reality. That along with three decades of coaching and a lifetime of personal and business experience form the foundation of her work with individuals and as a Small Business Mentor. Jo loves helping people to become clearer and more confident to build happy and meaningful lives by understanding themselves better. And her interest in shape shifting reality and cracking paradigms, led to her enjoying a three day work week for the past 30 years! In the past 15 years she has found herself referred into a wonderful niche within the Australian Design and Creative community where she works with a whole raft of people working to transform the world. What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? After reading Invisible Women by Caroline Criado Perez I would make sure that all data collection is sex-disaggregated and would ensure that there were more women researchers and that they were funded to do their important work. The absence of sex-disaggregated data has led to a very male centric society as without data about women’s usage and needs, they fail to be factored in to the conversation and the outcomes. I would ask designers and policy makers to ask this one questions before they did their work- what do the women who will use this object or service need? And then they would have to research the needs and take them into account when designing. @johooksolutions</image:caption>

Adéle sees every project as an adventure in pushing the boundaries of what design can do for people, and as a result Foolscap employ wit, play and opportunity to create outcomes that feel warm and ‘lived in’, before anyone has even occupied the finished space. What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? One thing is not enough... The whole system has to change. More female architects/designers designing for females would be a great start. @foolscapstudio</image:caption>

<image:caption>AMANDA DZIEDZIC Amanda Dziedzic is a Melbourne based glass artist and co-founder of Hothaus Glass Studio. Amanda breathes life, joy and a sense of beauty into the handblown works she meticulously crafts. During her artistic practice she has completed a two year traineeship at JamFactory in Adelaide, a research residency in Tokyo, Japan, undertaken studio placement in the UK, participated in numerous glass schools including Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle and Corning Museum of Art. She has completed residencies at Northlands Glass in Scotland and Canberra Glassworks. Alongside her own work she also produces work for clients such as Jardan, Cocoflip and The Design Files which she now creates ‘in haus’ in her very own hot glass studio in Heidelberg West. With a keen sense of botanical appreciation, her works are technically challenging yet are universal in their appeal. In her designs, she takes a inspiration from Japanese aesthetics and colour, these two design influences reflected in her signature Yumemiru collection. @hothausglass</image:caption>

<image:title>About Josie Young</image:title>
<image:caption>JOSIE YOUNG Josie Young is an independent designer of brands, websites, print bits and digital bits and writer of headlines, panels and interviews. Josie has been an active part of the wider design community throughout her career, doing things like speaking at Adobe MAX, Semi Permanent and Sydney Design Festival, facilitating panel discussions for This Is Not University, co-hosting podcast interviews for Australian Design Radio, volunteering with AGDA and lecturing at universities. Before flying solo, Josie was a designer at Christopher Doyle & Co., where she worked with clients like Bell Shakespeare, YSG and Spotify. In 2018, Josie was awarded AGDAs inaugural Emerging Designer of the Year award. Since then, she’s still trying to figure out what exactly to ‘emerge’ toward but she's having a nice time doing nice work for nice people. What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? I'd abolish the 'circle where it hurts' and 'on a scale of 1-10 how much pain are you in' methods of assessing pain that are still used in medicine and push for a shift in focus to more individualised, nuanced, pain care. The 'women are born with pain built in' line from Fleabag hit me so hard it caused a flare up. We're often told the pain we're in is normal, but pain shouldn't ever be normal. Pain is complex and it should be treated as such. Instagram: @josieyoung Twitter: @josieyoung_</image:caption>

<image:title>About Crystal Fong</image:title>
<image:caption>CRYSTAL FONG Crystal Fong spent many years at the world’s biggest advertising agencies (DDB, Ogilvy, JWT) won multiple industry awards and became the first Young Glory winner, before realising she could develop a model that existed outside of agency walls, perhaps one with no walls at all. In 2012, Crystal founded Apostrophe.xyz, Melbourne’s first copywriting agency. Currently peppered across four continents and 20 cities, Apostrophe.xyz will soon be known as a world-first – a brand agency that doesn’t do pictures. Crystal chooses to work with brands and businesses that are creating the future she wants to see. In the past, she’s worked with CARE Australia, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, NASA, LA Philharmonic, Swinburne University, Tim Burton and many cannabis brands. Crystal doesn’t like public speaking, but she does love adventure. That’s why Crystal has spoken at Pause Festival, Myriad Festival, Deakin University and Melbourne Writers Festival. She once ran a panel for Chicago Public Media’s This American Life. And recently appeared on Never Not Creative's podcast, Asking for a Friend. She was born in Australia, educated under the British banner and grew up in the Malaysian jungle. She believes her most significant business achievement is developing a model that allows her to leave it, in search of worldly exploration and personal growth. She believes that real change begins with meaningful communication and enjoys helping others find what’s meaningful for them. @Apostrophe.xyz @Fong_on_tour What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? A place where women can be women, free of gendered labels and expectations.</image:caption>

<image:caption>ELLA REWETI Ella is a Naarm based ceramicist making functional slipcast wares in her Preston studio. Inspired by architectural forms, particularly the corrugated profile so ubiquitous within the Australian industria vernacular, Ella has developed a range of stackable, interchangeable plaster moulds that inform her process. Different configurations of these moulds create the instantly recognisable profiles of Ella's Tilde collection of ceramics. Ella has also started experimenting with this form in new materials including recycled plastic and steel and is excited to see where these explorations take her next! What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? <image:caption>SALLY PISKURIC Sally Piskuric is a Senior Graphic Designer and Art Director with over 16 years of industry experience working in branding and environmental design. Her passion for problem solving and belief in holistic design outcomes drives her to work closely with clients to create considered, idea-driven solutions that positively impact the community. Sally’s love of working within multidisciplinary design environments has led her to collaborate with a variety of skilled specialists including architects, interior designers, photographers, artists and illustrators, across various projects. She’s happiest when she can bring people together and help facilitate great ideas being brought to life. What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? I feel like the list is endless and grows each day. I would make egg freezing free for women and remove the term ‘social’ egg freezing – there’s nothing social about it. I would teach boys from an early age that being vulnerable is a strength not a weakness, and showing respect for women is a must. I would ensure that every executive team, board room meeting and workshop is diverse and inclusive. Above all I would find a way to free women of guilt and shame - the feeling of not doing enough, being enough or having achieved enough (according to society’s standards). @sallypiskuric Photography: Mia Mala McDonald</image:caption>

Alison produces the Joyful Sober podcast, where she chats to creatives, entrepreneurs and down-right fun people about their less boozy life. Forever curious, Alison’s latest passion is astrology and exploring the ways we’re connected to universal cycles of growth. What is one thing you would change/create to make the world a better place for women? Let’s stop asking women to emulate men when it comes to leadership and top roles across so many of our industries. Let’s value qualities like empathy and the ability to elevate others in all genders. Oh and let's properly value, and renumerate, all caring professionals while we’re at it! @alisonlasek @joyfulsober</image:caption>
