What if it is
Up to Us?

All progressive historic milestones, from women’s voting rights to marriage equality, were once considered idealistic fantasies.

At a time like this: with extreme social, political and ecological uncertainty, it’s instinctive for designers to dream of utopian solutions. If you dismiss our visions as unattainable dreams, you’d be largely inaccurate. Being impractical can shift the impossible to inescapable, and is the only way to design the world we want. Utopianism is fuel for transformation. It has long inspired women and collectives to come together, to create movements for change.

Up to Us invites 24 Australian female designers to come together and create a design response to female-centred problems. Considering the statement – What if it is up to us?

We want to showcase the incredible talents of female designers while creating a framework that encourages collaboration, the exchange of ideas/knowledge and brings awareness to issues affecting people identifying as women and girls in our communities.
